Featured Artist Adam Topol
"From Lake Tahoe California, Adam Topol studied music formally at Berklee College of music in Boston and studied privately with Jazz drummer Alan Dawson (Dave Brubeck, Dexter Gordon). He continued his studies of hand percussion in Havana and Matanzas, Cuba with master Cuban drummers.
Since moving to Los Angeles, Topol has toured internationally and recorded with singer/songwriter Jack Johnson. He played drums and percussion on Brushfire Fairytales, On and On, In Between Dreams, Curious George, Sleep through the Static, and To The Sea. All records were platinum and Curious George debuted at #1 in the US. He also performed on the DVD’s En Conert and A Weekend at the Greek/Live in Japan and live concert footage of other performances can be seen on channels such as Palladia and MTV. Time Out London described Topol and Bassist Merlo as “The Best Rhythm Section Since Sly and Robbie.”
Outside of his work with Jack Johnson, Topol has recorded drums and percussion with artists such as, Neil Halstead, Zee Avi, Piers Faccini, Mason Jennings, King Blues (featuring Rancid’s Tim Armstrong), The Sprout House Band (also featuring Money Mark, Jack Johnson, and Tommy Guerrero), and rock guitarists Joey Santiago and David Gilmour.
As a bandleader, Topol has co-produced and performed on the following releases:
Ritmo Y Canto (Everloving Records)- A folkloric drum and voice album featuring traditional Cuban songs performed by a host of roots aficionados, such as Ozomatli's Asdru Sierra, Justin "Nino" Poree, and Raul Pacheco, Grupo Afrocuba de Matanzas vocalist Teresita Dome Perez, and Cuban master drummer and dancer Juan Calvo Flores.
Culver City Dub Collective Dos (Everloving)- A full length CD with a blend of a blend of Jamaican roots reggae and West Coast electronic beats featuring Ben Harper, Jack Johnson, Money Mark, Winston Jarret (Studio One Legend), and Jay Malinowski (Bedouin Soundclash), Matt Costa, Don Cavalli, and Alex Desert (Hep Cat, The Lions).
The Living Room Descarga- Featuring Danny Frankel (KD Lang, Lou Reed), Fredo Ortiz (Beastie Boys), Chris Joyner (Jason Mraz), and David Ralicke (Beck). Also on the CD were cameo appearances by Mason Jennings, Tommy Jordan, and Raul Pacheco.
Since 2012, Topol finished two full length solo recorodings. Blue Painted Walls in Far Away Places is a full length instrumental Jazz CD where he produced and performed 8 of his original compositions with an all-star band. Regardless of the Dark is Topol’s debut as a singer and multi-instrumentalist and will feature 12 of his original songs. "
